Between Earth and Sky
This catalogue features the work of artist Dan Hudson. Designed by Kelly Hartman of Hartman Design and produced by Kallen Printing in Calgary.
The front cover and inside first page are both die cut. The square shapes overlap / align to create a peek-a-boo effect that reveals the opening title page.
Printed on Eames Vellum Text and Cover that beautifully compliments the imagery. As you read through the catalogue, the small thumbnail images on each spread act as a flip book with changing video stills of Barrier Lake.

Random Acts of Photography
When Roth and Ramberg came to Kallen Printing to produce their 2016 notepad calendar "Random Acts of Photography", it was time to put on our thinking caps!
The entire project required innovation — from the custom-made base, to collating over 365 pages to creating the colour matched glue.

Thauberger Casebound Book
We're thrilled with this stunning 208 page hard cover book recently completed at Kallen Printing. Designed by Hartman Design Studio, "Road Trips and Other Diversions" features the artwork of renowned Saskatchewan artist, David Thauberger.
The artist's work consists of a huge collection of buildings, from small town shops and homes to quonset huts and churches. The portrayal of regionalism and Saskatchewan vernacular had a stirring sense of approachability and homeyness. The uncoated paper throughout was chosen to support this feeling of accessibility.
The front cover type includes "flocking" a tactile, black velvet-like treatment that the artist often used in his printmaking. Also featured are orange end papers, a matching orange ribbon and a CD inserted at the rear of the book.

Rumour has it there's a big party coming up… Who wouldn't wanted to be invited to this rich ride with a fun invite like this one?
Hot off the press from Kallen Printing, the envelope and ticket folder were printed on Classic Crest Stipple finish, resulting in a luscious tactile effect that looks and feels like leather! In contrast, the "flask" invitation was printed on a Gloss Cover stock to mimic stainless steel.

Art Catalogue wins UVU Award!
Congratulations to our client Hartman Design Studio for their award winning work on the Garry Newton retrospective book, produced by Kallen Printing. The UVU award, presented by Unisource, recognizes design and print excellence across Canada.

A limited edition set of books – like a set of prints — were hand-numbered. A toothy printmaking-style of paper was chosen for the pages; a cream stock for the reproductions and white for the text. Fold out sections appear through out the book. To support the details in typography, a traditional word processor font was designed for titles and captions.

Back To School
With fall just around the corner, this vintage inspired collegiate piece produced by Kallen Printing brings timely inspiration! This clever self-promo, from Pollock Parke, was printed on a thick, luxurious uncoated stock. Each section was scored, french-folded, hand-collated, and finally sewn together, leaving the threads exposed.
Prospects can flip through the content, which features ethereal imagery of the Pollock Parke creative space. Once the brochure has served its original purpose, the perfed pages can be torn out to reveal bonus posters printed on the interior.
The original illustrations and artwork inside, courtesy of talented "classmates", is inspired by the East Village neighbourhood where Pollock Parke is located. We give this piece an A+!
